The contractor tasked with the construction of the Hong Kong Link Road (HKLR) of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge (HKZMB) has discharged untreated pollutants directly into the sea for the past few years, directly contradicting environmental regulations. The Highways Department claims that the contractor constructed the required wastewater management facilities and sedimentation tanks, but an Apple Daily article claimed that the contractor violated their regulations and only recently installed the mandated facilities. Delays in the construction of the Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macau Bridge have also increased construction costs, resulting in the loss of billions of dollars for Hong Kong.
