Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-Ngor was a guest of honor at the opening ceremony of Hong Kong’s largest and most impressive 3D floor painting in Tai Po Coastal Park. Unfortunately, the image of the Chief Secretary gleefully posing by standing on the face of the endangered and beleaguered Chinese White dolphin conveyed a confusing message and prompted widespread public backlash. Many netizens believed that the photo reflected the government’s harmful attitudes towards the mammal, which has come close to extinction as a result of government-led infrastructure projects that involve large scale reclamation.
