Fish Outta Water | Date: November 5, 2015Chinese White Dolphins typically feed in shallow coastal areas that typically do not exceed 10 meters in depth, but the process of reclamation adversely affects their feeding habits. Reclamation for projects such as the third airport runway and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is reducing the number of dolphin habitats, which in turn forces dolphins to move further away to less appropriate habitats and extensively affects their breeding, nursery, and foraging grounds. The process of dredging also increases the chance of clogging fish gills, reduces fish growth rates, and prevents egg and larval development, which decreases the overall amount of food available to the dolphins.
