Opposition to East Lantau Metropolis

7959 Signatures Obtained, This Campaign Ended on December 31, 2019

Target: 10000

The Chief Executive of Hong Kong,

The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, has ignored the public objections to the reclamation. In this year’s policy address, the ” Lantau Tomorrow” vision confirms the implementation of the ‘East Lantau Metropolis’.

This is a massive reclamation project creating a 1,700 hectares artificial islands in between Kau Yi Chau, Hei Ling Chau and Peng Chau. The scale is the largest reclamation project in Hong Kong’s history and creates an irreversible impact on the future of Hong Kong. In addition, the Government needs to construct roads connecting the artificial islands to Kennedy Town, Kwai Kwai Tsing, Tuen Mun, Tung Chung and South Lantau.

The entire project is estimated to cost at least HK$1 trillion.

We oppose “Lantau Tomorrow” and call for:

The Chief Executive to immediately withdraw the plan, and to pragmatically solve the short-term housing supply by prioritizing land and allocation problems in Hong Kong;
