Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Commissioner for Transport, Director of Highways, Sai Kung District Council, Hong Kong Police Force, Director of Water Supplies,
Sai Kung is well-known for its roaming feral cattle. Due to increasing development and clearing of their natural habitats, the cattle have come more into contact with roads and vehicles in the last few years. SKBW, Friends of Sai Kung (FSK) and recently SKCA have been requesting a cattle grid over the last 5 years.
Sai Kung Cattle Angel (Ell Tam) and Sai Kung Buffalo Watch (Carol Biddell and Karina O’Carroll) seek public support for the installation of a cattle grid within Sai Kung at the junction before the road splits to Man Yee Road / Sai Wan Road, within Sai Kung Country Park.
A cattle grid will help humanely manage the movements of Sai Kung’s feral cattle, with the priority being to minimize traffic and bovine conflict.
We have and are considering…
- Public Safety
- Vehicle / foot / bicycle traffic
- Adventure races in the area
Right now, most departments involved have agreed that there is a need to trial a cattle grid in our region, so long as there is public support. We now seek your support via signature, for the positioning of a grid at the junction BEFORE the road splits to Man Yee Road / Sai Wan Road, within Sai Kung Country Park.
SKBW and SKCA, will continue to monitor and respond to any and all cattle issues in the region.
