MARS, Ferrero and Nestle,
MARS, Ferrero and Nestle have dominated the confectionery market in Hong Kong by around 40% in terms of the sales revenue. These international brands promised in 2018 that they will implement a series of plastic reduction measures by 2025. Rather than waste reduction, they committed mainly on recycling, eg. Recyclable or biodegradable packages. But Hong Kong is lacking of the facilities to process such “recyclable or biodegradable” materials, the packages would therefore still be disposed of at landfills.
Only genuine actions will lead us to plastic-free. We need your support by signing this pledge for:
1. Disclosing total number of packages imported to Hong Kong
2. Introducing zero-packaged purchase; and developing non-plastic packaging alternatives
3. For unavoidable packaging materials, bearing the responsibility of recycling them properly
Together we would give greater pressure to pre-packed confectionery brands by telling them that Hongkongers do not welcome plastic packaging waste! Many thanks to your support for the environment.
