To Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Director of Environmental Protection, Secretary for the Environment,
We are writing this letter to bring the subject of Ting Kok conservation to governments’ attention again. Since 2012, the government has implemented Ting Kok Coastal Conservation Plan (Ting Kok +), in recognition of its high ecological value. Outline Zoning Plan S/NE-TK/19 has also about 40.11 hectares are zoned “Site of Special Scientific Interest” (SSSI), while about 6.97 hectares of land surrounding the Ting Kok SSSI are zoned “Coastal Protection Area”.
We understood that government has implemented policies to address conservation in Ting Kok. However, according to approved in S/NE-TK/19, about 4.07 hectares of land to the east of Ting Kok Village is zoned “Other Specified Uses” annotated “Spa Resort Hotel” for development of spa resort hotel. Lung Mei, which is located just beside Ting Kok, is in a heavy construction of artificial beach. Construction noise, illegal construction waste dumping, has severe potential in destroying biodiversity in Ting Kok. News had reported cutting of over 1,000 trees in Ting Kok areas.
Ecological values can only be protected when the whole area is undisturbed. We therefore petite to legislate all areas of Ting Kok as another Marine Reserve, which can, in terms of laws, better protect the biodiversity of Ting Kok and enhance the educational value of the two SSSI.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
